lyrics
I’ll reek of this forever,
Fearing pheromone and Feather,
For what impulse may have let her,
Cut this prophesy in stone?
A scar is but a scar,
On the psyche that you are,
Like a fragment in a jar,
Or a sickness at the bone.
Drugged vinegar,
I was suddenly weakened,
I could hear someone breathing,
Someone I didn’t know.
Drugged vinegar,
I was laced to submission,
Fucked without my permission,
And left to wake on my own.
More alone then,
than I’d ever known,
Speaking not but through the words of this poem:
Drugged vinegar.
I recall a softened light,
As my frame took on the blight,
Still un-shook with all my might,
Long now since the damning’s done.
And her heart of half the blood,
What the other half be of,
Is a drink of poison love,
Spiking Lilly flowers numb.
Drugged vinegar,
I was suddenly weakened,
I could hear someone breathing,
Someone I didn’t know.
Drugged vinegar,
I was laced to submission,
Fucked without my permission,
And left to wake on my own.
More alone then, than I’d ever known,
Speaking not but through the words of this poem:
Drugged vinegar.

What a fantastic album! I've only listened to the full record once so far, but man, this is going to be on steady play for me for awhile. Lyrics are worth savoring, arrangements are engaging and varied, and the vocals just hit that auditory groovy spot. Favorite song is going to change with each listen, so I'll start with the first track. Russ Isabella

Ancient Shapes is my favourite iteration of DR. Another collection of great tunes to set on repeat, as to be expected at this point. Nicolette Hoang's velvety vocals are the finishing touch on this pitch-perfect update on outlaw country with a touch of 60s glam. Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 27, 2024
